They’d wrested it outta thin air Our cocooned, isolated bhks Insulated us from the elemental rages While their stories seeped in the sad We moved in to their makings Blissfully unaware of their dreams Hosted many an obnoxious party Gotta flaunt what we got we said We bought tons of stuff they made In factories of sweat that our ilk ran Money trickles down we preached Homes got filled, our hearts grew dry They got caught in the web too Of happy people sneering from billboards Of sheen and shine of the glittering malls Little did they know of the times coming The money, it kept growing wild In place of trees that once had roots Nature will heal pronto we said And printed brochures in foliage green Lives moved on, times flew by And one day the inevitable struck The world came to a screeching stop And laid the vinyl dreams threadbare The walls grew thickertaller overnight While their gates got locked really tight The city they built held them to ransom With a lockdown of hearts, souls and stomachs The bricks now stand an ugly testimony To the gaze of the uninvited and forgotten Donned in rags of denim and cotton Reminiscing about their labour of love Parading past the citadels they built Afraid of the very system meant to protect Ridiculed by the very people they sheltered Abandoned by all in the scam called life Braving the very rage of the elements Undaunted by the astronomical distances The migrants walked off into the sunset Very spirits we might have lost forever.
